Генерал-полковник Постников Александр Николаевич Colonel General Alexander POSTNIKOV, Commander-in-Chief Land Forces since January 11, 2010.

Alexander POSTNIKOV was born February 23, 1957 in Labinskoe, Krasnodar region.

He graduated from Kiev Combined Arms Command School in 1978.

Throughout his initial stage of military career, Alexander Postnikov served in Kiev Military District and later Group of Soviet Forces in Germany as platoon to battalion leader.

In 1988, he earned a degree at Frunze Military Academy and was assigned to the Odesskiy Military District and later Far East Military District as deputy regiment commander, regiment commander, division chief of staff, chief of district training center.

Upon graduation from the General Staff Academy (2000) he took up the position as army chief of staff, and later army commander, Moscow Military District.

In 2004 he was appointed chief of staff – first deputy commander, North Caucasus Military District.

In December 2006 he was appointed chief of staff – first deputy commander, Siberian Military District

Alexander Postnikov was promoted to the rank of Colonel General by the President on June 12, 2006.

Colonel General Alexander Postnikov was delegated the power and responsibilities of Siberian Military District Commander according to the President’s Decree on April 19, 2007.

On 11 January 2010, Colonel General Alexander Postnikov assumed the duties as Commander-in-Chief Land Forces following a related President's Decree.
