Commander
Colonel-General Arkady Bakhin, Volga-Urals Military District, Commander since December 2008.
He was born on May 8, 1956 in the city of Kaunas.
In 1977 he graduated from Moscow Combined Arms Command School and assumed command over a platoon (later, company and chief of battalion’s headquarters) with the Southern Group of Troops and in the Kiev Military District.
In 1987, he earned a degree at Frunze Military Academy and reported to the then Central Asian Military District as battalion commander, chief of headquarters and commander of motorized rifle training regiment.
From 1992 to 1995 he served as a commander of motorized rifle regiment and commander of the motorized rifle brigade in the Siberian Military District.
In 1997, he graduated from the General Staff Academy and was appointed as commander of military base in the Transcaucasus, and later was assigned to the North Caucasus Military District as commander of motorized rifle division.
In 2000 he was appointed as the Chief of Staff – First Deputy Commander of the Group of the Russian Forces in Transcaucasia, from 2002 to 2004 – the Deputy Commander of the North Caucasian Military District.
From 2004 he was the Commander of the Combined-Arms Army in the Siberian Military District, and from January 2006 – the Deputy Commander of the Siberian Military District.
He has the experience in performing his duties in combat situation. He was awarded Orders of Courage, For Military Merits, For Service to the Fatherland as well as many Medals.
Presidential Decree 854 as of July 9, 2007 appointed Arkady Bakhin as the Chief of Staff – First Deputy Commander of the Siberian Military District.
Presidential Decree as of 3 December 2008 appointed Arkady Bakhin as the Commander of the Volga-Urals Military District.
