Directorate for Environment Protection is designated to manage and control ecological services within the Russian Armed Forces, provide for environment safety and defend the nature against harmful impact caused by the Armed Forces activities.

It is also responsible for providing troops with protective assets enabling to safeguard the manpower against adverse factors of environment both on a day-to-day basis and in case of emergency.
